Couldn’t have happened to a better guy ….

October 11, 2007 · Leave a Comment

We’ve all experienced the feeling of shock and surprise when someone you know, even just peripherally or even just celebrites you’ve heard of, has been arrested.  No way, you say! Never could have imagined he’d do it.   These feelings are even more common when the person arrested is well known, is famous.

Not in the case of Michael Fortino, apparently. The comments left by friends and others who’ve run across him over the years aren’t universally hateful, but they’re pretty darn close!  Reminds me of Milo Bloom’s news article byline for Senator Bedfellow in a Bloom County cartoon … “Leaving a trail of slime … “

I have no idea where that came from! (actual quote!)

When is the world going to start waking up to the problem of mysteriously appearing porn?  It’s embarrassing enough to be caught with your own stash of naked celebrities,  but how bad must it be for someone like State Representative Matthew Barrett, when the porn isn’t even yours?  Poor guy, he probably just didn’t notice that directory filled with images of naked people;  how often does anyone, really?

That’s what I hate about Walmart too, the feeling that I gotta keep up with the Joneses! :)

Amazing bear rescue

September 27, 2007 · 4 Comments

Here’s the story, and the text that came with the pictures …an incredibly lucky bear in many ways!

This is just incredible.
A VERY lucky bear.
The first photo is actually
the last one.
They were out of sequence.

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old Hwy 40 at Donner Summit, Truckee) on Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear caught the ledge and was able to pull itself to safety. At one point the bear tested its ability to climb down by lowering its feet down the side but decided against that idea and pulled itself back up! Authorities decided that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on the ledge. After securing a net under the bridge the bear was tranquilized, fell into the net, lowered, then woke up and walked out of the net.

Tattoo Regrets

September 25, 2007 · 1 Comment

About three years ago, I got my one and (so far) only tattoo, a phoenix rising out of a fire on my lower left leg. Being that it’s going to be visible for hopefully quite a long time, I wanted something that would be meaningful to me. Rankmytattoo.com has compiled some of the more questionable ideas for tattoos that they’ve seen. I think these have to be my favorites … First, can anything bring a huge wave of schadenfreude-istic smiles to people like a typo on a tattoo? I can laugh because it didn’t happen to me …

As for questionable designs, I would think a subway map would certainly have to qualify …

Or how about branding a fast food logo on your body for all time? There’s more than one person out there who’s thought this was a great idea!

Nicely put

Occasionally someone is able to encapsulate an entire event, an entire media circus, with just a few words. From the “A President Visit’s” blog, this guy may have come as close as anyone to capturing the attitude of many Americans towards Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Columbia …

$15 for a JCPenney’s hookah in 1975!

September 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Back in my day we got our water pipes from JCPenney’s and we liked it just fine! Jancee Dunn finds a 1975 JCPenney’s catalog and all kind of great items that seem to have been discontinued sometime between then and now. Be sure to check out the Burger King driver thru children’s toy, or how about that fur-lined toilet seat? The sanitary considerations boggle the mind … :)
